Lake Trout populations were nearly wiped out by sea lamprey invasion with the
help of commercial fisheries during the 1940s. Showing the recovery of the Lake Trout, the
Great Lakes Commission reported 1,150 Lake Trout spawning sites in 2019 which is represented
by the red beads placed on the map. This is the same number of beads incorporated into the
lamprey wounds of the beaded Lake Trout.
