Wagner's Complete Map of Buffalo, 1937

aidelen's research-based artwork is a data visualization of redlining in Buffalo, New York. In 1937 the Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC), a government sponsored corporation, mapped out the places in Buffalo that were deemed desirable for investments – known as redlining. This can be seen in the division on Main St. East and West Buffalo.

June 2023. Canvas, Embroidery Floss. 12.4" x 15".

This left "less desirable" neighborhoods facing inequities that continue today. Criteria for the redlining of districts were often based on racial and income discrimination.
